When the Captain Marvel movie came out, I heard a lot of so called "experts", people who are "fans of the comics" point out how Captain Marvel is essentially the Superman ripoff of the Marvel universe.
Now anyone who knows anything, knows that DC comics and Marvel copy each other endlessly. So it makes sense. But for crying out loud, it's The Sentry who's the true Superman ripoff.
And the thing is, The Sentry isn't even one of these B-list no one has ever heard of characters. In fact, he used to be as famous as The Fantastic Four back in his day. He was even the very first Marvel Zombie! The one who infected Spiderman!
Yet at the same time, it's a running joke among everyone who knows who The Sentry is, about just how obscure he is.
It's fun to just occasionally bring up his name, or describe Superman then say Marvel, then bring up his name. Or just talk about how no one seems to have ever heard of this guy. Even the Marvel Bullpen Bits made fun of it. (By the way, the Marvel Bullpen Bits really needs to make a comeback. It's those comics that made Hawkeye my favourite character, just because of how it constantly made fun of him.)
Even though I would kind of like a movie about The Sentry. I don't hope for one. Because it would ruin the "obscurity" joke surrounding him. It would be nice if they played in with that, but I doubt they would.
The Sentry is a drug addict.
Last time I checked it was the sun. Then again that was years ago, and reboots are common.
Or of course, I'm just plain wrong.
Either way, the drug addict thing is even funnier.
