In this period where subscriptions services are slowly getting worse, I want you to remember that the best streaming service already exists, and has existed for a long time. It's just too bad it's illegal. See, this is why we can't have nice things.
Hmm... maybe we should get the guys who made cannabis legal, to do the same thing here.

Let's be clear here, torrents aren't illegal. It's what people make torrents that determine if they are legal or not. But it's that stigma that torrents are illegal by nature that has caused very few legit uses of them.

Imagine for instance if your favorite MMORPG used torrent tech to distribute updates. Those huge massive multi-gig updates would run faster on launch day as fewer people would be putting the burden on the main server.

There is absolutely no reason that all these game launchers and whatnot couldn't integrate secure torrents into their distribution platform. But the stigma of the tech being used solely by pirates causes it to not be adopted at large.

That is completely true.
And it's a shame really. The P2P protocols have come a long way in recent years, partially in thanks to pirates. But as you said, the stigma stops torrents from being used legitimately.

MMORPG updates are one thing. But you could theoretically use it even for downloading Steam games. Everyone who has the game bought and installed, could instantly becomes a seeder, assuming their installation folder meets all of the hash checks.

Maybe one day, developers will get off their high horse, and start using this tech.
