I just hate that the genres of "Adventure" and "Action" have lost their meaning so much that if you pick a random game on steam that is commonly tagged as one of those it'll likely have the other also.

So yeah, some people complain about Roguelikes requiring knowledge of what Rogue is, and more recently some people complain about Metroidvanias for requiring knowledge of what Metroid and Castlevania are. But these same people also recommend using terms like platform adventure despite clearly not having any knowledge of what Colossal Cave Adventure is like. Showing that the origins of the name of a genre can be forgotten, and the meaning can stay intact.
Now you might be thinking "Ah, but adventure is a general term", to which I say by that logic almost every game is technically an "adventure" game. I mean, you go on an adventure on Final Fantasy, Super Mario Bros, and even Doom, but none of them are games where the genre contains the word "adventure" because they have nothing in common with Colossal Cave Adventure (the game which the term derives from).
And as the comic says, the Dizzy games are a perfect example of combining an adventure game and a platformer. So if Metroidvanias are "platform adventures", then what the heck is Dizzy? (Also, for the record, Dizzy isn't incredibly obscure, and even has a few copycats, so this isn't an exceptional case here.)
So what I'm saying is, only delusional morons call a Metroidvania a platform adventure.
