Thankfully the hero on Princess Maker 2 was smart enough to ask to be given money every year instead.
So yeah, I recently played Princess Maker and Princess Maker 2. Both of which are really fun games, but my goodness are they messed up. Despite what the name might lead you to believe, these games aren't made for little girls (they're made for basement dwelling nerds). A more accurate title would probably be "Deadbeat Dad Simulator". The things you can do on these games is really messed up when you think about it, and some of the possible endings are also pretty damn messed up too. Not to mention some of the images if you have it uncensored (I mean dude... she's technically your adopted daughter, WTF).
(Don't worry, I tried to be the best dad I could, not the creepiest.)
It's games like these that make me think that Japan is a weird country full of pervs. But then I remember "Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2" and the more recent movie "Old", and realize that America is an even weirder country with even more pervs. At least Japan knows where to draw the line.
Still, a very fun game series, despite it's uh... shortcomings. A bit like a Tamagotchi but with a human instead. Very fun, and highly recommended to anyone who wants to play a child-raising sim and doesn't mind the "Japanese" elements. I'd recommend Princess Maker 2 over the first one though, it's much more palatable, and a better game overall.
Also for the record, I think I got the best ending for Princess Maker 1, with my daughter actually marrying a prince. I got a pretty good ending for Princess Maker 2, with my daughter becoming a legendary hero, but she only ended up marrying a knight and ended up being a pretty terrible mother. I raised both to be warriors first and foremost, with both being undefeatable juggernauts by the end.
I've got to admit, it's kinda surprising that the series has never been involved in a major controversy, considering they've all been officially translated and released on Steam. I guess it's not very popular. Knock on wood I suppose.
