I actually have looked at someone playing the dynamic shadows mod and then someone playing the raytracing version. While the raytracing version does have some lovely lighting and reflection effects, it overall looked very plain... and flat. The dynamic shadows mod looks absolutely gorgeous though! There's no contest (although I suppose the dynamic shadows mod does look a bit unrealistic, especially with the jerkiness of the shadows). The fact the dynamic shadows mod works on a much weaker computer than the raytracing, kinda makes you wonder why you would choose anything else.

Of course, just because I think raytracing in games is a complete waste of processing power, doesn't mean other people do. Sure, they might not be able to tell the difference, but they've been told there's a difference, so they're going to love it! Raytracing is the future of games. I don't even mean that sarcastically, it's clearly taking off. The only downside to that though, is that one day, graphics cards probably won't support some of the lighting shortcuts we've used up to now. Such is the way of progress I suppose. But hey, at least we'll finally have proper reflections! Because is it just me, or do reflections in games up to this point, currently look more like weird portals rather than looking how reflections actually look.
