Let's face it, parents have been unknowingly traumatizing their kids throughout history, and since they grow up traumatized, they end up traumatizing their kids in the same way.
So many things made for kids are absolutely terrifying! Yet no one notices because it's made for kids, and as such, it therefore must be suitable for kids. I like to call it "Parent Blindness".

It really makes me want to make a horror series for kids, something which would be so scary that it could scare even adults, but that's also considered perfectly suitable showing for young children, having one of the lowest possible age ratings. I bet I could do it. Existential horror generally isn't considered in age ratings, and creepy smiles are usually considered a good thing to include in children's media.
