This comic is making fun of a little strange thing that commonly happens in my comicstrips, which is that I usually set the background to a field with Steve and Doug walking along it. Just check the last comic strip and you can see what I mean.
Also, if you can't guess, Doug's Sister is at Steve and Becky's house. That's why the sofa is now red and the carpet is green.
