I know 2012 was two years ago (obviously), but I just had to make this comic strip!
After all, it could've happened (if zombies existed). I mean, come on, even I know what to do when you see a zombie.
Heck, this is the exact reason why, if there was to be a zombie apocalypse, it would have to be "Everyone who dies, rises as a zombie" and not "Everyone who is bitten, rises as a zombie". Because let's face it, the first zombie would probably get killed pretty quickly.
By the way, The Walking Dead is not the first to do the whole "Everyone is infected thing". If you watch the first ever zombie movie Night of the Living Dead, you'll see that bit of zombie lore has been around since the very beginning.
Another tidbit of information. Did you know those horror movie zombies were based on vampires? It's true, Romero was inspired by the vampires in the I Am Legend book. But those vampires were more like what we now call zombies. So he basically took something which was nothing like the creatures they were supposed to be, and gave them a different name, and it stuck.
Nowadays, when someone gives a creature a different name, they usually give something that already clearly has a name, a stupid (sometimes unpronounceable) made up name. I can't tell you how much that annoys me.
Still, you've gotta love the classic zombies. They didn't scare you by making you jump or by startling you. They scared you by giving you an overwhelming sense of dread.

I'll shut up now.
